Employee Spotlight

Pete Salas, Building Engineer

Pete Salas began his career with Wellington Management 24 years ago in 2001. Pete is our building engineer- in other words, he’s the guy to call when you need maintenance help. He is responsible for the general maintenance at approximately 10 WMI properties, most of which are on Energy Park Drive in Saint Paul.

Throughout his time with WMI, he has built strong relationships with tenants and colleagues alike. Building those relationships, Pete says, is one of his favorite things about his job, and working with our tenants makes him excited to come to work. Pete does everything from replacing lightbulbs and ballasts, to performing equipment checks, to cutting keys and rekeying locks, and everything else in between – but the best thing is ensuring the tenant’s needs are met with satisfaction. Leaving tenants with a smile is important to Pete, and his genuine care for tenants has made him the recipient of countless invites to holiday parties and lunch gatherings.

Pete’s pride in his role also shows through in the quality of his work. He loves learning new skills and often takes classes on locks, lighting, HVAC, and welding to stay current on the latest techniques and innovations. He’s passionate about investing in new tools and gadgets to improve efficiency throughout his day. Throughout the years, Pete has enjoyed being able to train team members – including his son Junior.

He puts these same skills to work outside of WMI. In his free time, Pete loves working on his retro cars (you might have seen him at Back to the 50s at the MN State Fairgrounds!), woodworking, and generally building things for his family, whom he is very close with and sees every week.

Another favorite hobby of Pete’s is going for drives with his wife to explore all that the state has to offer. This fall, he visited a local apple orchard, alpaca farm, candy store, and jazz festival. His dream road trip is to drive Route 66. If he has to leave his cars and opt for a plane trip instead, he said he’d like to visit his wife’s family in London.

In addition to exploring new local shows and businesses, Pete said that he loves to support the people who support him. One of his go-to lunch spots is Pho 79, located in WMI’s Park Crossing. He also frequents Jimmy John’s at Falcon Crossing and Key’s Café at Valley Creek Mall.

We at Wellington Management are lucky to have had Pete on our team for these past 24 years. His love for his job and dedication to tenants are truly one-of-a kind, and we can always count on him to brighten the office during his visits.

Thank you for all you do, Pete!
