Spotlight at Energy Park Financial: Happy & Healthy Therapy
Maria Bossert runs Happy & Healthy Therapy from Energy Park Financial, located on Energy Park Drive in St. Paul. We reached out to Maria to learn more about Happy & Healthy Therapy and the valuable work she does.
Maria moved into the Energy Park Financial building in September of 2023 but has been running Happy & Healthy Therapy since 2020. Maria says that her business was created from personal experience. “I had difficulty with pregnancy, birth and the transition to motherhood including a miscarriage and a traumatic emergency c-section. I experienced a lack of support through many of these challenges and found that other women were experiencing the same thing. As an occupational therapist I saw an opportunity to support women during these child birthing years,” Maria explained. “I also have two children who had oral restrictions (aka tongue ties), so the feeding therapy that I do with infants has become a passion and something I experienced personally as a parent.”
What is occupational therapy? KidsHealth defines it a sector of health care that helps people of all ages who have physical, cognitive, or sensory problems. Maria gave us more detail. “The heart of occupational therapy is to assist people in engaging in, adapting to, and adjusting their daily activities, routines, identity and habits to help them thrive in the type of life they desire. Daily activities, routines, identity and habits are all things that inherently change when adding a baby to your family and becoming a mother.”
The importance of family is a value our company shares with Maria. Steve Wellington founded Wellington Management 40 years ago, and in 2014, his son David joined the team, working his way up to President of the company. Beyond that, Steve and Kathy Wellington’s other children work with the company in supporting various philanthropic causes, such as the NEON Collective Kitchen and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.
Our affordable housing efforts, like the recently-opened Rivkin in Minneapolis, are further efforts to support generations of stability for local families. Working with entrepreneurs like Maria with whom we share these core values with brings us great joy.
Maria’s dedication to the wellbeing of children and families is at the heart of her business. “Happy & Healthy Therapy is all about equipping moms and babies to be well and flourish. Life isn't without its ups and downs but at the end of the day we all have the same fundamental hope, to be happy and healthy. Life changes a lot when a baby is born and a lot of challenges that can come up too. I am here to guide and support moms and babies as they navigate common challenges and the transition to becoming a family.”
We are happy to have this relationship with Happy & Healthy Therapy and are excited to see where the coming years take them. Maria explained, “My goals for the future are to keep doing what I'm doing and to reach more moms. Women are conditioned to take care of others first and not ask for help. So, there is work to do to undo this conditioning and normalize more services for women during pregnancy and postpartum, like occupational therapy.”
