Panel Discussion: New Nicollet Redevelopment

On Friday, September 6th, 2024, David Wellington was one of a handful of developers invited to speak on a panel regarding the City’s redevelopment of the former Kmart site on Lake Street, a project that is expected to take place between 2028-2029.

This project hopes to reconnect people and places by enhancing the neighborhood feel and improve access to the area; build affordable housing and new community spaces that reflect area cultures; create outdoor public spaces for recreation and leisure; support reliable transit services and bicycle connections; and utilize green materials and infrastructure throughout the development process.

The City looked to David for his experience with multi-phase, large scale development in the immediate area. The panel was asked to weigh in with their opinions on hurdles that may arise, what the RFP (request for proposal) process will look like for developers who want to invest in the project, and how it the redevelopment will benefit the community.

Since our start in 1984, Wellington Management has made it a priority to invest in and support each community we settle in. We believe this comes not just from developing our own projects, but also supporting others in their endeavors. We are honored that David was asked to use his expertise as a professional in the field, and we are excited for what’s to come!
